Ainul Huda’s Research Featured at Virginia Tech’s Science on Tap
Ainul Huda’s research was recently featured at Science on Tap, a public outreach series that brings science to the community in an engaging and informal setting. The event offered audience members a hands-on opportunity to explore how neuroscientists study brain function and behavior using cutting-edge research tools.
During the interactive session, participants experienced how researchers use optogenetics to precisely control neural activity. Audience members used safe, low-power red lasers to activate specific neurons in fruit flies, observing real-time changes in behavior as the flies stopped, spun, or walked backward. The live demonstrations highlighted the remarkable precision of optogenetic techniques and their power for uncovering the neural basis of behavior.
As part of Virginia Tech’s Science on Tap series, the event showcased how innovative research tools can make neuroscience both accessible and engaging for the broader community, while fostering curiosity and dialogue between scientists and the public.
