Orientation for Incoming Neuroscience Students
Orientation is an important event for all incoming Virginia Tech students. During orientation, you will learn about the student support services, work on your schedule; meet your advisor and other staff members, and more.
Pre-orientation check-list:
- First-year students must register to attend Orientation.
- So make sure you check your vt.edu email account!
How Will Virtual Orientation Proceed This Summer?
STEP 1: You will receive an email after you have completed Pre-Orientation Module 2, about one week prior to your Day 1/2 VT New Student Orientation. This email will include instructions on how to join the Neuroscience Zoom Meeting for course enrollment on your Day 2. Please let us know if you need any accommodations!
STEP 2: You will join us via Zoom on Day 2 and you will be given:
- a live presentation of the School of Neuroscience, followed by break-out rooms (you will be guided into your room)
- a 1:1 meeting with an academic advisor to enroll in your classes
- a chance to ask questions about the degree program and meet other new incoming Neuroscience students

To change your major, please contact Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
A: If you received credits through AP/IB/Dual Enrollment, you may not have to take these courses at Virginia Tech. To help determine the best schedule for you, we need to know what credits you are receiving so we don’t schedule you in the same courses. Students are urged to bring an unofficial copy of their AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment transcript or scores. These scores will help advisors recommend a set of courses best fit for the students.
A: You are expected to send the official documents (transcripts and/or AP/IB scores) to the Registrar’s Office. Instructions can be found at https://www.tranguide.registrar.vt.edu/. For orientation purpose, we don’t need the official version.
A: Yes, you can change it when add/drop period opens (around mid-August). You must consult with an advisor because if you drop a class that you need, you may not be able to re-enroll due to space limitation. So don’t change your schedule until you discuss with an advisor.
A: There are no specific computer requirements for Neuroscience students. Students needing recommendations may visit https://www.compreq.vt.edu/ for more information.
