Affiliated Neuroscience faculty member, Carla Finkielstein, advocates for breast cancer prevention in isolated communities in the Virginia Commonwealth. Finkielstein and other researchers at Virginia Tech are looking to detect breast cancer cases in Montgomery County at early-stage by giving remote communities access to breast cancer screening services.
“We want to reduce breast cancer deaths 50 percent by 2026,” said Finkielstein. “We can’t meet that goal without ensuring everyone has access to basic screening services.” This is the motto of the Virginia Tech crowdfunding campaign to fight breast cancer impact in Appalachia.
